Best Life 2010 Day 167: Left it all on the field

Long story short: I was up and out the door at 330 am for my audition to get up Oprah's up coming show.

I got called up about 8:30 in a group of 12, and we each had about 30 seconds to explain who we were, what our show would be like, and why we were the ones to host it. I probably felt as nervous as I ever have walking up to the table, but I don't think it showed too much (I know how to stay frosty, hehe).

We had to submit our application that we'd filled out, and give her anything else we wanted to give her (people had brought books, pictures of themselves, etc).

So I stood up and gave her my application, and reached into my wallet and said “and anything else we want to give you, huh?” which got a bit of a laugh.

I went on to say:
“Hi, my name is B. Dave Walters, I'm 6'9” and no I don't play basketball.
My show would be somewhere between Oprah and the Daily Show in format, with a positive slant on current events, guests, and questions from the audience. And the reason why I'm the person to host it, is I am a Life Coach and I write two nationally syndicated advice columns, so I am very good at helping people sort out their problems, feel better about themselves, and learning how to be happy all the time.”

That was it.

I felt like I genuinely did the best I could; all I can do is keep moving on to th next thing, there is nothing I can do about this now but wait to hear back from them.

(Don't forget: Oprah auditions are still going on; please vote often (you can do it many times, on multiple days); if you aren't a US Resident please leave a comment!)
